About the Authors

LJ is a stay-at-home mom with two wonderful children, one of whom has special needs.  She and her husband Onno are actively involved in their children’s lives and work together to juggle all of their activities.  LJ studied psychology and child psychology in college, and those studies, along with her creative mind, led to the idea for The Birthday Fairy book.  LJ had been telling her own children about the Birthday Fairy since they were toddlers.  When she beat breast cancer last year, she realized that now was the time to move forward with the ideas she’d been jotting down over the years.

Lorraine is the mother of one super awesome daughter and two beautiful step daughters. Her husband Carlos is a brilliant sixth-grade history teacher who brought their story to life through his illustrations. Lorraine has been a legal secretary for many years, but has always loved English and creative writing.  When LJ talked to her about the Birthday Fairy and how she wanted the story structured, Lorraine got to work and the collaboration began. Both Lorraine and LJ were born on Long Island in New York, but were raised in Raleigh, North Carolina, where they now reside with their families.
